The Super 500 Thailand Open, back at the Nimibutr Stadium after six years, marks the resumption of the HSBC BWF World Tour following a six-week break.
China remain the sole country to complete a clean sweep. They did it in 1999 and 2008.
Only hosts Thailand have seeds in all five categories.
Indonesians Susi Susanti and Greysia Polii possess the most titles – four each.
Susanti’s four arrived in a row (1991-1994), a tournament record for consecutive triumphs.
Home darling Sapsiree Taerattanachai could join them if she secures mixed doubles alongside Dechapol Puavaranukroh.
The Thai duo and Chirag Shetty/Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are the only top seeds with previous success at the tournament.
Shetty/Rankireddy remain the first and last Indians to win men’s doubles.
Indonesia, giants in the department, have not won since 2017 (Berry Angriawan/Hardianto). Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana, seeded second this year, lost in the final last season.
Despite the dry spell, they are still the most successful in the category with 12 crowns, three more than Korea. Daniel Marthin/Leo Rolly Carnando (4), Muhammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan (5) and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani (8) are their seeded hopes this edition.
Their longest wait, however, is in women’s singles, where Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is the No.2 seed. Susanti’s victory 30 years ago was Indonesia’s last.
It’s been 13 years since China scooped the men’s singles, through Chen Long. Lu Guang Zu is their best bet this time.
If he triumphs, China will then have the joint-most titles (10) with Indonesia in the discipline.
Thailand last aced women’s doubles eight years ago but stand a good chance of snapping that drought with top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai.
A successful title defence for fourth seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn meanwhile, will make him the first Thai singles player to win back-to-back editions.
Standout Stat: No more than three nationshave producedtitlists in all five disciplines – China, Indonesia and Korea.
